Networking with Alumni
Toyz Electronics is a technological company dedicated to providing a creative and innovative approach to educating and employing the next generation. The company combines education with entertainment to create an environment for children to discover possible career paths and stand out to employers while learning. The company’s goal is to teach students the fundamentals of STEM subjects through interactive learning experiences, in the form of video games they would typically partake in for leisure.
This past week, the founder, Damola Idowu, hosted a Get Back Together alumni event, where different Syracuse alumni and neighboring communities joined to hear the company’s vision and upcoming goals. Damola Idowu, a Syracuse University alum himself, shared his story of starting the company and expressed how Toyz Electronics could help struggling students across the world, particularly in underrepresented communities. Idowu shared the company’s goal to increase its user base as well as make its way into prestigious universities. He also discussed Toyz Electronics’ future plans to extend into the Syracuse school district as well as creating a master’s program to get students to experience college life in Syracuse, as Damola once did. This event served as an environment for networking and gathering new ideas for the company to expand, through laughter and casual conversations, as well as an opportunity to catch up with past fellow classmates.
Along with another intern, I attended this event in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the company and its purpose. As well as, coming up with innovative methods to further market Toyz Electronics, so the company can reach its desired user base. I enjoyed my time at this event and left with a brand-new understanding of how the website works and what approaches I could use to promote it. It was inspiring to see how passionate Damola is about his company and see his visions coming to life.
